W Brisbane, the city’s first five-star hotel in two decades, confirms June opening

The highly anticipated Australian return of the W Hotels brand is upon us. Brisbane’s W Brisbane has been confirmed to open on the 1st June 2018, bringing the city its first five-star hotel in 20 years and re-introducing the country to W’s energetic, bold aesthetic and playful sense of luxury.

Located at 81 North Quay, the 312-room hotel will light up the Brisbane River foreshore and take in views encompassing Brisbane River, South Bank and Mount Coot-tha. The offering will include 29 suites, two signature “Wow Suites”, and one “Extreme Wow Suite”, all of which will feature luxuries such as start of the art Bowers & Wilkins Bluetooth speakers, complimentary Wi-Fi, Netflix on 55″ LED TVS, and design utilising custom furnishings and interiors inspired by Queensland’s heritage and Australia’s famously laidback lifestyle.

The property will also be a true gift to the locals with three different bars and restaurants, and if the incredibly hip and happening culture of the W brand seen in destinations like Bali, Hollywood and Amsterdam is anything to go by, these should easily be some of the biggest hotspots to open this year. One of these has already been confirmed as the Queensland debut for Sydney-born legends Three Blue Ducks, positioned as W Brisbane’s signature restaurant with a strong dedication to paddock-to-late dining and evolving seasonal menus.

In addition to the brand’s signature AWAY Spa and a 24-hour gym, W will also feature a WET Deck (basically what W call a pool area and bar) with an Aussie barbeque and a range of smoothies. 1,100 square metres will be reserved for event space and meeting rooms as well, making W surely one of Brisbane’s most valuable openings of 2018.

Sydneysiders also have a W to look forward to in their city in 2019; Sydney was previously the home of a W Hotel, but it closed in 2005. That location is now run by Hong Kong’s Ovolo. The new W in Sydney will be found in Darling Harbour, in the location of the old IMAX Theatre. Interestingly, it’s being built on top of a new IMAX going into the same spot…
