Virgin Australia Launch Economy Space + on Boeing 777-300ER fleets to US and Middle East

Virgin Australia has announced plans to launch a new class upgrade, Economy Space +, this August. The news comes alongside the launch of their refurbished Premium and Business Class cabins, which we reported on yesterday.

The enhancement – which is reminiscent of services offered by other airlines, like United Airlines’ Economy Plus – is designed to improve comfort and convenience for long-haul economy flights. The seats are exclusive to the first five rows of the economy cabin, and will deliver extra legroom, fast check-in via Premium check-in counters and early boarding. Most other airlines only offer the “extra legroom” part, so this is a big jump on their competitors.

Economy Space + will be available for travellers boarding all Virgin Boeing 77-300ER fleets to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi from 30 August 2016. Seats are on sale now and can be purchased for either AU$135 if booked more-than 30 days prior to departure, or $165 if booked within 30-days prior to departure, as an added cost, each way.

The key features of the Economy Space + include:

  • Extra legroom
  • Check-in cia dedicated Premium check-in counters
  • Pre-boarding
  • Preferred overhead locker
  • Dedicated crew members throughout flight
  • Guaranteed first meal choice
  • Premium noise-cancelling headsets.

Virgin Australia Chief Customer Officer, Mark Hassell said: “We are excited to launch our new Economy Space + product, providing more choice and comfort for passengers travelling in the main cabin. Coupled with Virgin Australia’s award-winning service , we believe Economy Space + will be very popular with a range of travellers.”
