If your first or last name is “Houston” then you have a damn good reason to be excited about United Airlines’ new daily nonstop service between Sydney and Houston, Texas which will be introduced on 20th January 2018. To celebrate the inaugural flight, the airline has put a call out for anyone with the aforementioned name to come forward, whereby they’ll be entered into a competition from which five winners will be picked. Those five winners will then travel to Houston on a return flight for free (along with one guest each) with five nights’ accommodation and special inclusions such as a city pass which provides access to top Houston highlights such as the NASA Space Station, Houston Zoo and the Aquarium.
Each entrant must submit 100 words or less describing why they would like to visit Houston and travel on the inaugural United Airlines flight.
“I am thrilled to launch this unique and creative campaign to connect the cities of Sydney and Houston”, said United’s Managing Director of Japan/Pacific Sales Alison Espley. “We are delighted to start the exclusive nonstop service from Sydney and Houston, Texas and we hope it will encourage even more active exchange of people, trade and friendship between Australia and the U.S”.
Each “Houston” chosen to embark on this trip will be opened up to the “quintessential experiences” of the U.S’ fourth-largest city. Conversely, there will be five winners coming from the U.S, each with the first or last name of “Sydney”, to explore Australia’s famed harbour city, coming in on the inaugural flight on 18th January 2018.
This new flight will be the only nonstop service to Houston from Australia, as well as mark United’s third direct route from Sydney to the U.S, with the other routes providing direct daily nonstop access to United’s West Coast hubs in L.A and San Fransisco.
