Just in time for Christmas, Qantas and American Airlines have paired up for two new direct services between Australian and the USA.
The new Qantas Flight 73 from Sydney direct to San Francisco departed for the first time this weekend, with the route’s first passengers celebrating with a figure eight flyover the iconic Golden Gate Bridge before landing.
The first American Airlines Flight 72 from Sydney to Los Angeles was launched with cupcakes and champagne for passengers and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. As of January, Qantas have said that the new Sydney-San Francisco flight will take off six times a week. The American Airlines flight between Sydney-Los Angeles will be schedule daily.
These services now mean the Qantas / American Airline partnership is offering a variety of 50 direct return services each week between Australian and US airports, opening up doors for travellers to connecting destination across Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
The new flights have come about after an expansion of the relationship between the two airlines, with Qantas explaining, “…a lower dollar improves the competitiveness of Australia as a destination for U.S. travellers…. We can’t wait to return to San Francisco, which was Qantas’ first ever US destination back in the 1950s and is still a hugely popular holiday spot for Australians.”
