North Sydney gets its own world-class infinity-edged rooftop pool

A world-class 25m infinity-edged rooftop pool has opened this month in North Sydney, Australia, on the rooftop of Crown Group’s latest residential development, Skye by Crown Group. Construction of the building was completed in December.  The property group has secured more than $100-million worth of apartments in the first week of sales and all apartments now sold.

Residents of the $200m tower were the first to enjoy the pool, which, at 20 storeys above street level, also offers views of North Sydney and Sydney Harbour. Crown Group CEO Iwan Sunito said the infinity rooftop pool was one of many standout features of Skye by Crown Group, which had already become an architectural centrepiece of North Sydney.

The rooftop infinity pool sits alongside a luxury residents’ gym and lounge, with an expansive timber deck and tropical plants serving as its lush borders. The design of the pool takes its inspiration from the world’s best five-star hotel swimming pools such as the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.

“It is rare to find a wet-edge ‘infinity’ pool like this in a residential apartment building. Roof-top pools of this calibre are usually only found in top international hotels,” Mr Sunito said.

The pool itself sits 65m above ground, and holds 168 000 litres of water. It was built using about 100 cubic metres of concrete and 28 cutting-edge “springs” forming part of sound-proofing to eliminate sound from the pool in apartments. Construction of the pool took over three months.

The apartment complex, located on Pacific Highway, was designed by Koichi Takada Architects, and lead architect Koichi Takada was pleased to see the building come to life. “It is immensely satisfying to see Skye by Crown Group completed,” Mr Takada said.  “It was always our mission to create the feeling of visiting a beautiful five-star luxury resort on a remote island. We wanted to create something equally as beautiful as it was functional, like a sculpture you can live in”.

The 242-apartment building features a grand foyer, a pedestrian through-site link providing a public access between Pacific Highway and Angelo Street and a curved vertical ‘veil’ enveloping the building’s exterior.

“When we launched Skye by Crown Group in 2013 I envisioned it would become a vibrant architectural sculpture in North Sydney, home to more than one hundred new residents, and today that vision is a reality,” Mr Sunito said. He also added, “This building will be a landmark development in North Sydney for decades to come”.

Crown Group was awarded the International Property Award for Best Development Marketing for Skye by Crown Group in 2014.

Mayor of North Sydney, Jilly Gibson, welcomed the building, which would be home to hundreds of new North Sydney residents. “More and more of our residents are embracing an apartment lifestyle. A development of this calibre is a most welcomed addition to our thriving CBD,” Cr Gibson said.

Crown Group is known for architecturally unique, resort-style residential developments, and have won top industry awards, including the UDIA NSW President’s award, Master Builders Association Excellence in Construction award, UDIA National High Density Development award and the UDIA NSW award for Concept Design.

Skye by Crown Group is located at 211-223 Pacific Highway.

Crown Group released new apartments at V by Crown Group in Parramatta and Oasis by Crown Group in Ashfield, and will also launch a new development, Waterfall, in Waterloo.
