Naumi Hotels opens 193-room designer property near Auckland airport

Singapore-based design hotel group, Naumi Hotels, have just made their official debut in Australasia with the 193-room Naumi Auckland Airport property. With the playful addition just minutes from the international and domestic airports, the group are hoping to absorb and reflect a unique contemporary design that borrows from local culture, evident in the hotel’s central theme which has been conceived in homage to the country’s native Tui bird.

Award-winning Auckland-based design practice Material Creative have worked on the idiosyncratic and personalised design, which extends to all 193 rooms and suites which offer private patios and balconies for extra comfort. Hotel amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a manicured English-styled garden, fully-equipped gym, over 500 sqm of conference and meeting space, and an on-site restaurant and bar. Architectural firm Ellery Muir & Associates were commissioned by the group to complement the design and features with the sense of breaking the mould of a traditional boutique hotel.

“Naumi Hotel is anything but a cookie-cutter hotel brand, moving away from the sterile and the impersonal by offering micro, bespoke experience for every guest”, explained Mr Gaurang Jhunjhnuwala, who is the CEO of Naumi Hotels Australia and New Zealand, a brand of the group which will open Naumi additional properties in the near future, starting with one on Sydney’s George Street in 2018. This is only the third existing property by the award-winning hotel group, with the first two both located in Singapore.

It seems the group have gone all out for this one too. A 24-carat gold leaf textured wall features in the lobby, a piece created by local favourites NY Art Department to represent the feathered nape of the Tui Bird. That kind of ambitious display is complemented by 95 hand-painted gold discs with feathers, defining the lounge area which has been designed with a rich layering of emerald greens, jewel blues and pops of magenta. Numerous artworks are found throughout the hotel with the intention of providing a sense of theatre.

As for the rooms, they come in four types – Habitat, Oasis, Blush and designer themed suites – again mirroring different parts of the Tui Bird along with natural earth tones, rich materials and crisp white linens upon Slayer bedding. Each room has a total of 10 power points, free fibre-optic Wi-Fi, in built bed-side USB slots, 50″ Smart LED TVs with Netflix, complimentary minibars and yoga mats.

Paksa, the hotel’s resident bar and restaurant will be helmed by Executive Chef Luke Bottner with a dedication to Asian-fusion and local favourites, ranging from healthy bento box lunches and ice cream sundaes, to Hawkes Bay lamb racks and Waitoa chicken breast.

Naumi Hotels have also landed deals which will see them taking over two properties on Wellington’s lively Cuba Street, with handover for both expected to be complete by the end of this year.

Nightly rates at Naumi Auckland Airport start from NZ$350 (approx. £178) based on two adults sharing a Habitat Room on a room-only basis.
