IHG and Barnes Capital will be doing things a bit (actually, a lot) differently when they collaborate to open a new Holiday Inn in the increasingly trendy Melbourne suburb of Coburg. Moving away from the hotel brand’s established aesthetic, Holiday Inn Melbourne Coburg will be focused on modern unexpected design, with an eye-catching façade of mirrored glass created by architects Hachem.
Projected to open in 2020, the 150-room new-build hotel will aim to encapsulate the creative scene that’s now being credited to Coburg, as well as pull on some remarkable views across the town and its surrounding landscape, which includes Coburg Lake Reserve. Hotel amenities will include a gym, large meeting facilities, a bar and an all-day dining venue.
“Holiday Inn is famous for bringing joyful experiences to guests across the globe, and Holiday Inn Melbourne Coburg will be a shining example where magnificent design meets great service”, stated HG’s Senior Director of Development – Australasia, Abijay Sandilya. “We are thrilled to bring the world’s best known hotel brand to regional areas, suburbs and other pockets of Australia that are crying out for a great place to stay”.
Positioned on Sydney Road, the property will be providing guests with easy access to Coburg and surrounds, including the area’s very exciting Pentridge Prison precinct, which is transforming the heritage listed building with a $1 billion redevelopment that will incorporate a Palace Cinema, supermarket, apartments, and an urban village that sits alongside the heritage landmarks, community spaces, piazza and public open space. Bus and tram lines running to Carlton and Brunswick will be close by, and Batman train station is located just 300m away.
