Disney’s Star Wars Land gets a name, new concept art and a themed resort in Orlando

At the recent D23 expo, we were finally able to uncover some more details about the highly anticipated Star Wars theme parks set to land at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in Anaheim and Orlando, respectively, in 2019.

Yes it’s a ways away, but these kind of conferences are all about putting the hype into hyperspace so here’s what we know so far.

It was confirmed at the expo that the Star Wars themed ‘lands’ will both be named Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resort has promised a “truly immersive” experience allowing fans to truly be a part of the Star Wars enterprise.

A recreation of the hangar of a Star Destroyer, has been identified as one of the main attractions, and is set to be one of the largest in scale in Disney Park history. Of course, any Star Wars fan is going to tell you it’s just not Star Wars without the Millennium Falcon, and thankfully organisers have heard your cries with the second attraction set to put you directly in the cockpit.

It’s by no means a passive experience either, your actions, decisions and interactions with the attractions all have consequences, putting the galaxy (far far away) in your hands.

Also, fans of the long running Disneyland ride Star Tours can look forward to the return of Rex, the pilot from the original incarnation of the ride, who will be the DJ at the cantina – where you’ll order blue milk and other galactic concoctions. You can explore just what they have in store in this detailed fly-through that they revealed at D23:

And then the other big announcement: There’s going to be a Star Wars themed hotel & resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, according to Chapek, is “unlike anything that exists today. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story. You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100-percent immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

This is destined to be the ultimate accommodation option for Star Wars fans and though its launch date has not yet been confirmed, you can imagine they’re looking to open it alongside the new park in 2019.

The details and intricacies are really what highlight the enormity of the world, making each and every visitor feel as though they are truly apart of the Star Wars story. The concept images and fly-through look incredible, and even though this is just a snippet of what is on offer, like Yoda; my excitement, contain it I cannot.
