Canberra’s annual Truffle Festival brings truffle menus to life at two of the Capital’s best restaurants

Unless you’ve had your head buried deep underground like a subterranean fungus, you’ll know that Canberra’s annual Truffle Festival, held over 12 weeks from June to August, is currently in full swing.  Part of the festival includes a showcase of the nation’s best truffles at participating venues like Hotel Kurrajong Canberra and Vibe Hotel Canberra Airport.

Bringing truffle menus to life, these two spots offer guests the opportunity to taste and experience the harvested Black Winter (Perigold) Truffle, grown in the region. Other events over the festival include cooking classes, wine tastings and matchings and truffle hunts.

Chifley’s Bar & Grill at Hotel Kurrajong have designed a five-course menu with matching wines for an exclusive dinner. “It is really exciting to be able to showcase the unique taste and texture of Canberra’s truffles in this limited edition menu and celebrate its beautiful flavour. We are all for supporting local farmers, and if you haven’t tried a Canberra truffle, now is definitely the time,” said Head Chef Saju Rajappan.  Held on Saturday 13 August at 6.30pm,  each course also comes matched with acclaimed Dal Zatto Wines.  The event is $135 per person, and bookings are essential.

Head Chef Toby Thorley from Helix Bar & Dining at Vibe Hotel Canberra Airport as also created a range of themed menus to hero the Perigold truffle.  Menus change fortnightly, and include Rabbit Terrine ($24) with micro herb salad sour dough crumble and truffle jus, and Dark chocolate and truffle cheesecake ($19) with passionfruit sorbet and chocolate glass.
