Bali’s newest beach club, the recently opened Ulu Cliffhouse, stands 35 metres above sea level and is unsurprisingly glamorous and ambitious, giving the area of Uluwatu a distinctive clifftop playground defined by a 1950’s Palm Springs aesthetic. The 4600m² property is part of the ongoing evolution of the island’s cultural scene, drawing on the surrounding “surfers’ paradise” atmosphere (they’ve even got a resident surfboard shaper on board) for a sprawling multi-purpose club featuring everything from a stunning 25-metre infinity pool and a music recording studio to a dedicated art space, a rock bar located halfway down the cliff face, on-site spa and, of course, an open-air restaurant.
Out & Out Hospitality are the group behind the new venture, crafting this ambitious new project to a high standard which comes from their renowned venues across Bali (like KILN on Petitenget, and Mandala House) and Singapore (Operation Dagger; Oxwell & Co). To do this they called upon the design talents of Shed London and Bali’s Design Assembly, who have made full use of the panoramic view scanning the ocean as well as dipped into the local creative scene to build upon the area’s raw environment with modern edges and an overall youthful, chic appeal.
The open-air restaurant and bar is being led by Peruvian Chef Diego Muñoz, he who once led Peru’s Astrid y Gastón to the #14 slot in The World’s 50 Best Restaurant’s List. That’s a serious pedigree right there, with Diego’s aims to fuse worldly inspiration with Bali’s local cuisine to offer a unique menu that features personal takes on ceviches, tiraditos, and other traditional dishes.
Like all the other big-ticket beach clubs in Bali, music will be playing a major role in the venue’s ongoing culture, curated by a musical team led by legendary producer/mixer/composer Neil McLellan. The accomplished artist, who has worked with the likes of The Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails, will be aiming to keep Ulu Cliffhouse’s soundtrack up to a high standard. This is of course in addition to all the creativity that is bound to be pumping out of that start-of-the-art recording studio, which will host live shows that will be streamed, and serve as a workshop for international artists and DJs.
