Aloft Hotels call on budding Australian musicians for fourth annual Project Aloft Star competition

The After drawing 600,000 public votes last year, Aloft Hotels have brought back their successful “Project Aloft Star” program for the fourth year in a row. At it’s core, the program is a far-reaching band competition, amplified by partners MTV to give budding musicians and bands the chance to really kick start their career, shooting for the main prize which includes a mentorship by MTV and Believe Distribution Services, a Believe Distribution Services deal for marketing and distribution, and US$10,000. This is of particular interest to Australia this year as, since Aloft has finally made its way down under with the recently opened Aloft Perth, the competition is now open to acts from across the country.

Strengthening their connection to music and the millennial market, Project Aloft Star is a solid focus for the unique hotel brand, which with its extended focus now includes China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand in its scope, in addition to Australia. Entries will be accepted from all of these countries, retaining its status as a viable platform to discover music talent.

To date, the competition has involved Aloft heavily working with MTV to help boost the visibility and quality of original compositions amongst musicians, with hopes to remain a catalyst for musical creativity and discovery. The program debuted back in 2008 and has since been active in supporting live acts through the Live at Aloft Hotels music program, held at various properties across the globe.

“Aloft Hotels is designed for those who love open thinking and open expression, and Project Aloft Star captures the brand’s belief in self-expression through music”, explained Mike Fulkerson, who is the Vice President, Brand & Marketing of Asia Pacific for Aloft. “We’re excited to be exploring new talents this year by opening up entries to include Australia and Indonesia. We also want all music-lovers to be involved by voting for their favourite musicians via the website as well as engaging with us [via] our social media channels”.

For musicians, entering is simple, done by submitting YouTube, Youku, or Soundcloud links to the competition website (linked below) between now and 21st August 2017. Australian entries will be included in the Southeast Asia competition cluster (the other two are Greater China and South Korea). Four finalists will then be shortlisted for each cluster – three will be selected by judges from MTV, and the fourth will be a People’s Choice finalist. From 25th August to 11th September, voting will be open to the public on the website, which is well worth checking out since one voter per cluster will also be in the running to win US$1,000.

The four shortlisted finalists in each cluster will perform at the finals in front of a live audience, and a panel of judges from Aloft, MTV and the music entertainment industry. Finals will be held from October to November at Asia’s newest Aloft properties, including Aloft Perth which will be the location for the Australia and Southeast Asia finals.
