Hotel Review: One-Bedroom Suite at Legends Whistler (BC, Canada)

Over the Summer, I had the opportunity to spend two nights in a one-bedroom suite at Legends Whistler, in the famed Canadian ski resort town. It’s a different place in Summer – with bikes and hiking gear replacing your skis and snowboards. And where there was once ice, there are beautiful creeks and lakes, where you can go for swims or a kayak.

Legends is located “Creekside”, which is 7 kilometres from Whistler Village and sits at the original base of Whistler Mountain – the site of the first gondola, which first began operations 50 years ago. It’s still a way to enjoy the mountain in Winter, but as of last year they also opened it up to mountain bikers, with a new 647m vertical bike trail, meaning this side of the mountain is now in operation almost year round.

What Legends thus offers guests is all the adventure of Whistler without the madness of Whistler Village. You can rent all the gear you need there (we jumped on bikes from CAN-SKI Creekside and rode on trails surrounding the nearby lakes) and enjoy any of Whistler’s Summer or Winter activities, but if you don’t want to be a part of the party nightlife that Whistler Village is known for, you don’t have to be. And if you do – the Village is just a short drive / taxi / bus ride away.

One of the beautiful nearby lakes - Alta Lake. A pleasure to bike around, and even better to stop and enjoy in Wayside Park.

There’s also plenty of places to enjoy Creekside, including one of the best meals I’ve ever had at the nearby Nita Lake Lodge, and the excellent Southside Diner – so you’re never going to be sacrificing anything you need from your experience. Ultimately, Legends positions itself as cosy getaway for families, couples that want a bit of peace and quiet and those that want some excellent balance in what they are able to get out of the Whistler experience.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite in this condo style resort, though they also offer suites with two or three bedrooms. One of the big selling points is a spacious kitchen which has everything you could possibly need to cook and entertain during your time in Whistler.

You are also treated to a balcony (or patio, if on the lower floor) which allows you to sit and look out onto the mountain, as you listen to the water rolling by from a nearby stream. There’s such peace and tranquility to be found in the experience, it’s hard to want to move away from the view. Sadly not all rooms sit against the mountain, but definitely request it if available.

You enjoy a similar view from your bedroom window – with a comfortable Queen bed and plenty of storage space. There’s also a small flat screen TV to complement the larger TV you’ll find in the main living room – both with plenty of channels to choose from. The bathroom includes a bath, and its older design makes it very much feels like home. A gas fireplace in every room will be a welcome addition in the Wintertime.

Elsewhere in the resort you’ll find two hot tubs, a gym, an outdoor pool, a comfortable guest lounge with a pool table and the obligatory fireplace, as well as a playroom for the kids. If you’re peckish they have an on site restaurant, Dusty’s Bar & BBQ. You’ll also be able to get breakfast and coffee at Dusty’s Backside, which is open from 7am to 2pm.

In short, Legends Whistler is everything you could possibly want from a quiet mountain side resort, as long as you’re happy to be a little bit away from the Whistler Village party scene. The rooms are comfortable, the staff are wonderful and the experiences to be had in the surrounding area are phenomenal.

While we enjoyed the resort in the Summer, Winter time fast approaches and if you book by 15th November 2016 you’ll be able to get your hands on some great deals over the ski season, with 30% off stays of 3 nights or more among the deals offered. Head HERE for all the information.
