Hotel Review: Deluxe Executive Room at Jupiters Gold Coast

As part of the most substantial and expansive changes to date for Jupiters Gold Coast, the property’s entire Executive Floor has seen a great refurbishment, bringing all rooms up to standard with modern design and features aimed at an overall better experience both inside and outside of the room. In the past, Jupiters enjoyed a good reputation as a casino-hotel with a few casual diners dotted around the imposing property, but there wasn’t much more than that. Thankfully, that’s mostly changed as part of the big $345 million transformation and the effects are almost immediately evident as soon as you step get up to the floor.

Staying on the Executive Floor brings certain benefits, as well as access to the Executive Lounge which is located right next to the check-in desk. However, if you’re only staying for one or two nights and it’s not for business then you won’t find yourself down there often. Instead, there’s plenty to do now that the changes have started sweeping the entire property, particularly from a dining perspective.

Other benefits from staying on in an Executive Room include valet parking, VIP express check-in, pressing of two garments on arrival, complimentary continental breakfast, all-day refreshments in the aforementioned Executive Lounge as well as free drinks/canaps from 4:30pm-6pm each day, use of the business centre facilities, and access to Jupiters Fitness.

I was lucky enough to be one of the first to experience the new Deluxe Executive Rooms which are helping bring Jupiters into contemporary times. Though the bright new carpet is gaudy with a floral design that would look much better as a small portrait rather than something which covers the entire room, the impression on entry is mostly positive. There’s a very comfortable luxurious king bed that takes up most of the room, but the floorspace is still quite generous. A shiny wall-fixed television screen sits opposite the bed above a study desk and there are two comfy chairs sitting in front of the window. Gold Coast may have the beaches, but they also have the excessively tall hotels to block the view; regardless, the perspective offered here overlooks lively Broadbeach, which is still an unrivaled sight when the weather is fine – and it usually is.

The main features in this room are to do with technology though, and being a reputable property, Jupiters have secured access to all the modern gadgets the modern day traveler has come to expect. While not having this tech wouldn’t necessarily cause much inconvenience it’s nice to have multiple USB ports, high speed broadband and the option to customise lighting, automatic drapery, temperature, and service preference.

Each room is given it’s own character from newly commissioned artwork from local artists. The two in mine were stylish and understated, much more in-line with a good room than the overbearing carpet design.

The bathroom is just big enough for comfort but it’s still fairly small with a basin, toilet, and roomy shower. Elegant European tiling characterises the space, and all bathing products are from international brand L’OCCITANE.

Last year the property completely re-imagined the dining options and took them from standard pub-style casino fare to not-quite-high-end but premium options like moody Japanese restaurant Kiyomi from acclaimed Chef Chase Kojima, and the bright, vibrant Italian Cucina Vivo which also sports a huge balcony overlooking Jupiters’ new pool area. Those staying on the executive floor have access to an exclusive breakfast menu at Cucina Vivo, although the dishes are a bit more expensive than the breakfast buffet, which is in the same space, inexpensive, and brings good value with fresh ingredients even if the options are somewhat limited compared to similar buffets.

Of course, there’s the casino for those who are into that kind of thing, and let’s face it, most of the people who stay here are. On any given night you’ll find the floor to be packed, and it’s your standard casino games complete with tacky RSL-esque carpet. It is very casual though and the smaller space means less noise to travel up to other parts of the property.

The newest restaurant at Jupiters is Garden Kitchen & Bar, a wholly impressive feat of design with an emphasis on greenery and it’s very large outdoor patio which overlooks a very spacious garden which you’ll find on the side of the property. The food here has a fresh-is-first ethos and boasts salads using local ingredients, seafood dishes, and some really good steaks with house-made sauces. The cocktails here are much of the same and contrast with the Italian classics at Cucina Vivo and creative concoctions at Kiyomi; these ones are more consistent with the food, fresh sangrias, clean and bright sessionable drinks, and shared cocktail jugs.

If you head down to the bottom floor then you’ll find a mid-sized gym, a Thai-inspired massage service, and access to the pool area. The pool is not as large than what you’d expect from one of the biggest casinos in Australia but it’s by no means small, with sides lined by comfortable deck chairs, private cabanas, hidden spa areas which you can hire, and an outdoor bar.

All restaurants are easily accessible as soon as you head down to the lobby. Kiyomi is a stone’s throw from the check-in desk, Cucina Vivo is right behind that, and Garden Kitchen & Bar is located on the main floor near the entrance to the casino.

Of course, the property’s proximity to Broadbeach is of paramount consideration to many people who stay here. It’s close enough for a short 10 minute stroll, but far enough that you won’t have to deal with anyone on the street. Jupiters is secluded on it’s own little island of sorts – conveniently right next to the city’s biggest and best shopping centre, Pacific Fair.

All rooms in Jupiters will be seeing a refurbishment eventually, with all floors expected to be completed towards the end of this year. The property, which will be become The Star Gold Coast in the near future, will also be adding a 6-star 17-storey hotel tower, with more than 50 luxury suites, in the coming years; hopefully before the big Commonwealth Games in two years, which is one of the primary reasons Gold Coast are upping the ante across the board when it comes to modernising the iconic tourist destination. Jupiters are leading that change, and so far the refurbishment has seen significant improvements. I sure enjoyed my experience staying there, largely in part to the new restaurants, pool area, and in-room comfort. You have to admire a property that ensures you don’t really need to step outside to find better options across Broadbeach, although those are available, particularly at the nearby Oracle Complex.

Jupiters Gold Coast is located at Casino Drive, Broadbeach Island, Broadbeach QLD. For bookings and more details head to their official website HERE. Rats for the Deluxe Executive Rooms start from $894.
