Accommodation Review: A weekend on the slopes at QT Falls Creek Resort (Victoria, Australia)

While driving up the majestic Mt Bogong en route to Falls Creek low lying clouds began to decorate my view, splashes of green turn to white. The road twisted and turned past luscious bush and small torrents of water sprinkle down facades, hinting at the recent arrival of Spring. As I took in the immense beauty around me it instantly became apparent that I was getting closer to my destination: QT Falls Creek Resort, a designer alpine property which was voted Australia’s Best Ski Resort three years in a row by Luxury Travel Magazine.

Snow falls as we pulled up in front of QT Falls Creek, excited by the vast landscape that lay in front of us, a mirror for the sense of adventure regularly inspired by this location. The resort boasts 42 designer apartments, indoor & outdoor plunge pools, sauna and spa: luxury in a nutshell.

We scurried straight for the property’s Stingray Bar, hungry and thirsty after a long drive. As we studied the layout of the resort, most noticeable was that the main ski run and ski lift were literally right at our fingertips, making QT the prime location for that “ski in, ski out” lifestyle.

Stingray Bar is a lively hub of excitement and the perfect pit stop due to its close proximity to the ski lift, offering a menu that’s slanted towards Mexican food with some local favourites included for variety sake. Wash the food down with classic cocktails – a rum toddy seems entirely appropriate for the season – or get the bartender to mix you something special.

Feeling alarmingly full we retreated to relax and check out our rooms for the first time; being blown away doesn’t quite catch that magical, elated feeling of seeing a temporary home so slick and gorgeous. Our three bedroom, two bathroom apartment (starting at $790.00 per night in snow season with breakfast included) was fabulous, the open plan layout is impressive and airy with a full sized kitchen, living area, separate dining space, and a huge jacuzzi on the deck which stretches along the full length of the apartment (yeah, seriously) and offers views expansive views of the Kiewa Valley, mountains, and ski fields.

The master bedroom comes equipped with an en suite and its own private balcony, and the kitchen is fully stocked with all necessary cooking amenities and implements. If you don’t wish to cook however, The Bazaar on level 2 offers a wonderful buffet, with regular degustation menus on select nights, offerings guests a chance to explore local produce.

What I loved most about staying at the resort was their recently introduced, specialised ski concierge service. If you’ve ever been skiing before and needed to hire equipment, you would know how much of a hassle it can be, not to mention time consuming. When you stay at QT you can get your boots and clothing fitted, get your ski lift passes sorted – all necessary prep is done in about 20 minutes. You then have your own private storage area to pick up and drop off your equipment whenever you please. They really do make the whole experience effortless, something particularly valuable for newcomers to the skiing lifestyle.

Another one of my favourite activities after a prodigious day on the slopes was checking myself into the resort’s SpaQ. It’s the only spa on the mountain to provide the ‘Apres Ski Recovery’, a body treatment that heroes magnesium to aid in muscle recovery.

Though ski season is when the resort shines, it’s well telegraphed that there’s plenty Falls Creek has to offer off-peak – and not just QT’s cheaper rates – with bushwalking, cycling, water activities, and mountain biking listed on the area’s website.

QT Falls Creek Resort really does have everything necessary for a luxurious stay in one of the most beautiful locations in Australia. The service, food and rooms were all impeccably tailored with ultimate comfort in mind, a warm respite from the slopes that both provided an escape, and embraced the snowy surrounds of mother nature with a big focus on facilitating the lifestyle many travel out here for.
