Qantas re-introduces direct daily flights between Sydney and Beijing

Seven years after they culled the service, Australian carrier Qantas will be reintroducing direct daily flights between Sydney and Beijing, in addition to its current daily services to Shanghai and 28 weekly services to Hong Kong. The services will commence on 25th January 2017.

This new service which see an additional 3,300 weekly seats on the route and will expand on Qantas’ partnership with China Eastern. China Eastern will codeshare on this new Beijing service on the Airbus A330-200, and in return, Qantas will codeshare on China Eastern’s services between connecting Sydney-Hangzhou, Sydney-Kunming and Brisbane-Shanghai.

Qantas Group Chief Executive Alan Joyce is confident that this new partnership will help develop the business and tourism industry relations between China and Australia. “We’ll be ramping up the work we’re already doing with the state tourism bodies and Tourism Australia on marketing campaigns in China to make sure we make the most of this potential.”

Mr Joyce also added, “The business travel market is another key focus for this route, particularly off the back of the free trade agreement with China, which is increasing the amount of freight we’re carrying.”

Lately there has been growing demands for flights to various Asian countries, including Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Japan, The Philippines and Indonesia. China Southern Airlines recently connected Adelaide to mainland China for the first time, and the country itself provides Australia’s second largest amount of incoming visitors, behind our neighbours in New Zealand.
